Welcome to this week’s message for living your version of awesome, welcome to “Wealth As A Way Of Being ”

Hmmm… maybe it does grow on trees!

Money is wrapped around just about everything we do in the sandbox of time and space. Its evolved a lot over time. Money, as a form of exchange, sure beats trading chickens for pastries, or carrying sacks of silver or gold around, as our ancestors once did. Money is now digital; we can save a lot, spend a lot or exchange it for goods and services, often now without physically touching a Dollar, Euro or Rupiah. So, it’s definitely a lot more convenient to manage than it used to be when we were trading beads, or chickens or coins. Yet, the energy behind the concept of money or wealth has changed little over time.

Some people easily attract a lot of it and have more than enough. They are basking in plenty. Some people spend more than they have and experience the burden of unwanted debt. Still, others feel that no matter what they do, they never have enough of it. And a lot of people think they have to sacrifice their happiness or freedom in order to have it. I used to think that way too!

Have you found it to be hard to thrive in a bigger or deeper way or is it easy and fun for you to grow your experience of wealth in the way you really want to experience it? Do you have clear financial goals? Do you feel energized by your heartfelt dreams and goals around money, or is it a subject you prefer to avoid entirely? Do you ever find yourself saying something like “I can’t afford that” or “that’s a lot” of money, or “I guess it’s not meant to be”?

When I started my business over fifteen years ago, I didn’t realize at the time, that saying yes to being self-employed would open up a whole new awareness for me. I went from the security of a high-profile, six-figure income, and being a well-known leader in an industry for over twenty years, to being new, unknown and now responsible for figuring out how I was going to create consistent income every month, doing what I loved, paying my mortgage and creating the lifestyle I really wanted. I can tell you that I had more than a few “oh my God, what was I thinking” moments! I also learned that I had a lot of internal ideas about success and failure that needed to be overhauled and totally upgraded … if I was going to be successful. And I also learned that it’s really hard to be creative and at your best when you’re worried about how you are going to make your next mortgage payment or on the other end of that spectrum when you feel trapped in a job that you don’t like.

My examples may or may not speak to you directly, but if you’re not comfortable or satisfied with your current financial experience, you are not alone.

I learned that in order to be successful as a conscious, purpose-based business owner, I had to redefine my source of security, safety and success. Along the way, I also had to redefine my relationship with money and wealth, so I could thrive doing what I loved and thrive in a way that was also in harmony with my values and the lifestyle that I really wanted to create.

Like everything we interact with, what is showing up in physical form is an out-picturing of what is going on internally, in our ideas, our beliefs, and our expectations. And if you’ve ever worked with me either in private sessions or in a group program, you know that before a physical condition appears, like not enough money, or not knowing how to go to the next level etc. before any of that appears as a life experience, you know what is in the process of coming into physical form, by how you feel.

As examples, when we feel hopeful or excited about our financial goals, we’re lining up with them. And when we’ve reached the feeling that it’s easy or expected or a done deal … then we are where we truly want to be. It can happen!

On the other hand, if we’re feeling worried, we are scaring ourselves. If we’re feeling frustrated, we have a strong desire but … we are feeling stuck, because of the lack of it, because we are not seeing it as possible. And if we’re resigned to our current circumstances, as in this is “just how it is; it’s not meant to be” then we’re affirming that we want it, but aren’t capable of having it.

Yet, in all these examples, we have control over where we are heading, as soon as we claim that we do.

As soon as we claim control over how we are managing our energy, we have control!

So, why then, is prosperity or wealth such a mystery for so many people?

Let’s look quickly at why this is, so we can remove the mystery.

1) Most people, generally, don’t talk about wealth, prosperity or money unless they feel they don’t have enough of it or they believe the lie that everyone else has it all figured out.

The truth is that most people are not taught about being prosperous. Instead, they’re taught how to look at current conditions. And if current conditions are indicating that you don’t have enough of something, then you can never have more, from that vantage point. You’ll only see that there’s not enough and you’ll keep creating that because that is what you’re cultivating!

2) Money is also not a subject that most parents discuss around the dinner table. If you didn’t grow up in a wealthy household, then your parent didn’t know how to prosper or be wealthy, or maybe it didn’t matter to them in the way it matters to you. And we can’t teach or model what we don’t know.

3) Adding further to this feeling of money mystery is that many people are taught that it’s impolite to talk about money or it’s a taboo subject. This idea generally comes from people who are not comfortable with the conversation themselves. So, we’re actually taught not to talk about it, like there’s something wrong with it.

4) Many people believe and then pass onto their children that you have to sacrifice something valuable, like time with your family or your freedom or your happiness in order to have more money. In this case, you want it, but don’t want it at the same time. That’s a very uncomfortable position to be in and it’s also why many people just want to avoid the subject of money altogether, which of course, changes nothing.

So, it’s no wonder that people avoid the topic or feel uncomfortable when talking about wealth, prospering or managing money in the way they really desire.

Here’s a quick test to measure your wealth threshold.

If you could have any sum of money in your bank account right now, simply by snapping your fingers … how much would you want?

Do you have a number? If you’re in a position to do so, write that number down on a notecard or piece of paper.

>> Now add a zero behind that number and double it. Write that number down too.

Now as you look at those two numbers, how do you feel? What internal conversations come up for you?

Notice what you’re thinking.

Are you thinking wow, that would be nice to have, or that’ll never happen, or well, that would be great, but I’d have to work way too hard for that to happen? Maybe you’re jumping right into planning, how can I make this happen?

Notice the feeling and the thoughts that emerge for you. And if you’re thinking oh this is just another one of those silly exercises that don’t work for me, then ask yourself this question.

How much money do you believe you can add to your bank account over the next week? How about the next three months? How about over the next year?

Observe your internal dialogue and how you feel. Write down what surfaces, because if you’re not where you want to be yet, those thoughts, that way of being, that is what’s stopping you or slowing you down from having what you really want. Those thoughts that surface are creating your current way of being around wealth, that is your threshold.

The observations, the disempowering internal conversations you are having with yourself that don’t support your true desires … your mighty and attainable goals … that’s what needs to be released.

You need to decide if you’re going to continue to see your relationship with money or wealth in that way, or if you’re ready for something more satisfying.

What do you want to cultivate?

What does it feel like to be wealthy for you?

If you can’t invest the time to cultivate that, you won’t be able to have it. Why?

Because your way-of-being or seeing yourself in any particular area determines what you can have. Even if you learn new skills, you won’t let yourself grow financially, until you see yourself prospering in the way you truly desire.

If we let current conditions or disempowering conversations dictate what’s possible, we can’t fulfill our heartfelt dreams and goals. Because we first must feel that it is possible. No amount of hard work or super-duper formula or investment strategy will make up for not believing in your goal or dream. To have something, to attract it or the means by which it easily comes means first feeling that it is indeed done— like it’s the most natural thing in the world. That is the real work!

Money is a form of exchange. It is a form of energy. When we create something that someone values, they are willing to pay us for that. And when we see something we like, want, or value, we will exchange money for that expertise, that item, or that desired experience.

Feel yourself there, wealthy and happy and capable of managing currency, the energy of money in a masterful way. See yourself having fun, and thriving in exactly the way you desire it.

When you do the inner harmonizing first, you’ll receive the ideas, the inspiration and you’ll take action in the best way possible. Wealthy, prosperous, thriving, these are all ways-of-being that you can cultivate. You must feel them first before you can have them!

And if you are ready to go to the next level, or want help applying what you’re learning here, or getting into action to create what you really want, you’re not alone.
